Last Day of 504 (Summer Session)

This summer with 504 was so much fun! I learned how to make a podcast, I made a website, and learned about Diigo.  I had no idea that making a website was so easy.  I have no idea what to put on it, but I have one :)  I think once I do more things in the MAC program that I feel are worthy of being on a website then I will post it.  For our last podcast, I used garage band and it was so easy.  It's funny that I used to hear about people having their own websites and I always thought, WOW! They know how to do that!  This was quickly followed by the thought, "What could I possibly fill a whole website with?".  I am excited to go back to some of the things we learned this summer, specifically Evernote.

Class on Friday was great! It was really nice having previous MACers come in and talk to us about their unique teaching environments.  It's also encouraging to see that people do have jobs after this program (I hope I am one of them! Crossing my fingers!!).  It was interesting to hear about the varying amounts of technology in each of the schools.  A woman who teaches at Detroit Country Day is in a school where every student has a computer, whereas another teacher worked at Ecorse High School and his outdated computer broke within the first three weeks and was never repaired.

I really enjoyed hearing their stories and envisioning myself being a real teacher with my own classroom (it's happening in a year :D) !! I hope we will get a chance to hear from MAC graduates as the year progresses.  But, right now I am ready for my well deserved three-week vacation!!!!!

Everyone enjoy your summer! Relax! Sleep in!! See you in September!!!!

  1. Wah, our own classrooms in a year! What a thrilling yet terrifying thought!

I was the same way about websites. When I heard someone had their own website, I thought they were some type of tech genius that knew how to program everything and anything. When I found out I could make one too, I felt like one of those much envied tech geniuses. But that doesn't mean I am going to let on how easy it is to make a website, I would like to feel like a genius for a bit longer before my facade falls.

I am also looking forward to finding things to fill my website with. Hopefully our time as student teachers will expose us to new and memorable experiences and lessons that can fill our websites.

I agree the former MACers provided a sense of relief. The world doesn't have to end if I am teaching in a school with an ancient computer that crashes after three weeks- my technology training will make me a better adapter for when lessons don't go as planned.

I was similarly encouraged after meeting with the MACers in terms of getting hired. I know that it isn't necessarily going to be easy to find a job but at least I know it's possible. and funny, i was checking out this evening at a grocery store and the man asked me what I was going to school for. After saying I wanted to be a history teacher he chuckled and said, well good luck finding a job. I was really defeated for a moment, but I think it really is just pessimism getting the best of people. I have complete faith that we can all find something eventually, and i think we're in a good program to help us with it.

  3. Hey there, Musetta!

I also marvel at the great technological feats I've accomplished this term. And now I definitely see how people can "fill a whole website" with their stuff (I hope you see that too, look at all you've written on your blog!). I am looking forward to making podcasts about things that aren't very important (because I REALLY got excited about the editing on Garageband), but also things that I find important and will want to dedicate in a special way (with sound effects and edits, of course).

I officially feel more competent in the area of technology, and I can thank 504 for that!
